No, the 1256 will not cut 1/4" metals. They can cut up to 18 gauge, which is 0.0478 inches thick.

The 1256 tin snips are intended for sheet metal under 18 gauge. If your material is thicker than 18 gauge, or non-sheet shaped, we recommend getting a bigger tool.
